Re: Band of Brothers

But you know, what it comes down to for me is, with all the tripe bounded and propaganda aggrandizemed WWII flicks out there, made to sell War Bonds, and the like.....something, ANYTHING, that comes this close to realism is OK in my books. Yes, one can prattle on about how "that's not a real Tiger' or "they wouldn't have said that" or "that's not the way they stretched a condom on the end of their Garands", but well, they're simply missing the point in my estimation: I don't have enough fingers to count on, to depict the number of people I've had express to me that the mini-series moved them in one aspect or another; to even make a few of them get off their inane blackberry's and read an honest to goodness book! I've heard MANY folks criticize Ambrose, but the man turned a lot of foks onto many battles and players in WWII history, flawed or not, and that's a good thing no matter how you slice it. Lightenup, folks.

They're filming 'Pacific' in my home town and nearby as we speak. They've actually closed off streets in the inner city to film. My 'brother-in-law' is working on it in some capacity and so is my best mate. My friend, who is a welder who builds theatre sets usually, helped build the Sherman and the two Japanese 'Ha-Go' tanks that will feature. Somebody mentioned 'runners' earlier which I took to mean vehicles in running order. The two Ha-Gos, which were called 'No-Gos' for a long time are entirely scratch built apart from a single link of track thay had. They cast the rest of the tracks off this single link that was very badly worn and deteriorated. Consequently, both runs had curves in them and the tanks threw one side whenever they turned. They run on Ford engines...bigger than 351 V8...dunno my cars that well. The differentials were going to be old Jaguar diffs but they couldn't handle it. Then somebody 'found' two originals still in crates. Now, these tanks which are mainly made from 2mm sheet and welded frames run like clockwork.

In effect, Tom, that's what it was. He and I have discussed it.
Roger, I just thought that it could have been stated that way in the beginning is all Tom 1.

Cheers, did you talk to the guy before, or after the article?

Thanks

Tom

Re: Band of Brothers

It was after by the time I got to meet him. I was working on the maps for Vanguard of the Crusade. It helped that he only lived about an hour away.

Re: Band of Brothers

We'll soon be there n' the risk is that we'll be dissapointed even if its a good serie. The problem is that we've seen BoB n' our expectations on this one is bein' built up so that we want a better production. Too much expectations can kill a production in the end even if it's a great one. For most of us BoB was dropped on our heads from a clear blue sky n' we didn't have any expectations on it what so ever.
