Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?
Two other movies have come to mind which no one has mentioned (1) "The Cruel Sea" with Jack Hawkins and Stanley Baker deals with a British corvette fighting in the Battle of the Atlantic. It's an oldie (1952), and in B&W, but definitely stands the test of time. Based on an excellent novel by Nicholas Monsarratt who served on a corvette in the North Atlantic and (2)" The Enemy Below" (1957) with Robert Mitchum and Curt Jurgens, which you can catch on AMC at least once every couple of months. Both are very good movies that portray the characters as human with all the good and bad that that entails.

I agree. In retrospect, I'm surprised that it hadn't been mentioned earlier.

Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?
Great film-my favorite scene is at the very beginning of the raid-two naval officers are saluting the colors when a Val flies over and drops it payload. They run into a message center and send out-"AIR RAID PEARL HARBOR THIS IS NO DRILL" I think the officer was Cdr Bellinger of PATWING 2 on Ford Island-can anyone confirm this for me?

NAPOLA was a quite good flick. Not as good as I expected but still pretty good. It was the first movie of a very young German director. Can't remember his name tough.
