Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?
Ach ja. Dennis Gansel. I knew it had to do something with a beak and feathers. "Gansel" means goose in a lot of slangs in Germany and Austria.
@residentzombie: Actors in it I should know of?

I just finished watching Strafbataillon 999 (1959) from West Germany, not too bad, got it for less than $10 on ebay - brand new!

Who doesn't love a really bad movie? I've seen a lot of bad WWII flicks. But unfortunatly I can't remember any. My guess is that my brain is trying to protect me.

Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?
Well, I can think of one really bad war movie, and unfortunately, as a fan of Sven Hassel, it was a movie of one of his books, Wheels Of Terror, it was made in 1987, and was called The Misfit Brigade, so they couldn't even get the title right! None of the actors who played various characters out of the book bear any resemblance to the characters that you have grown to know and love in the books. In fact, if the characters in the movie didn't have the same names as the ones from the books, you would NEVER know it was based, to use that term veeeery loosely, on the Sven Hassel books. A complete waste of time!

Gotta be a toss-up between "Das Boot' and "A massacre in Rome" (Richard Burton), Oh! and then there's "Where Eagles Dare" (Clint single handedly kills no less than half of the Gebirsjager contingent in the castle!)

Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?
I've always liked "The longest day" with that great cast and both sides
point of view. Also a lesser known is the German film "The Bridge" And of corse "Saving Pvt Ryan", i guess i can't narrow it down to just one. |
