Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?

You guys all covered some great titles here. Hard to narrow down a favorite, but I think "The Longest Day", "Stalingrad" and "Letters From Iwo Jima" would be right up on top.

I'll tell what I don't like in WWII movies, and that's outrageously faux equipment. For example Patton tanks marked with balkenkruze, Fords masquerading as Opals or Japanese troops armed with Enfields.

I'm an equipment freak and that kind of stuff just puts me off.

Hehehehe.... My wife won't even be in the same room with me if I'm watching a war movie!

I have forced myself to deal with things like M-48s wearing the Balkenkreuze. What bothers me is when BOTH sides are driving the SAME vehicles, just painted differently!! I mean, c'mon!!!

I really wish I could start my own movie production company. I'd hire all the pedantic bastids I've met on these fora (myself chief among them!) and we'd start doing movies right. There are a coupla computer geeks that could really do some serious CGI, and we'd be rockin'!!!

And how about the "realistic" German dialog and accents! "Ven ve haft von der var."

Check please!

Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?

Its not my favorite war movie, but I think it rates a mention.

For those who haven't seen the movie, its about the Czechoslovakian pilots who fought for the British Royal Air Force during World War II.

Not a bad flick if you can get past the romance stuff, but it is quite interesting in regards to the czech pilots before the outbreak of war and the treatment of those ones who went home after the war.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?

Someone help me out (old age creeping in).

Great movie, watch it whenever its on, can't recall the title.

An American marine and Japanese solider trapped on an island.

At first they take each other prisoner (not at the same time of course). They become uneasy friends, build a raft...

That's as far as I will go because if you have not seen it I don't want to ruin the ending.

Those who have seen it, what the hell was it called?
