Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?

"Letters from Iwo Jima" is definitely a recent favorite. "Tora Tora Tora" may be one from the earlier years. "Band of Brothers" is high up there too, though it's a mini-series and not a movie, per se.

A lot of folks bash "Thin Red Line"; personally I kinda like it. It's different.

Foreign movies wise, I saw "Otoko tachi no Yamato" ("The Men of Yamato") a couple of months ago. AMAZING action scenes and would recommend everyone here to watch it if you can find an English (or whatever your native tongue is) subtitled copy.

Are you talking about the movie that came out last year called Yamato?
About the girl in current day goes to the resting place of the ship?

Yup that's the one. Have you seen it?

I love how the teacher from the drama GTO plays one of the NCOs I really liked GTO; definitely a "feel good" TV show.

Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?

To many to remember as I tend to collect 'em on DVD but the one that I've seen the most times durin' the years i no doubt Where Eagles Dare. I just love that movie. If we should talk 'bout realistic well directed warmovies I like Das Boot, Letters from Iwo Jima n' Tuntematon sotilas ('55), The Thin Red Line, Der Untergang & Talvisota.

Stalingrad, Cross of Iron, A bridge too far, The longest day, Sands of Iwo Jima, Hell is for Heroes, Kelly's heroes, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Aces High, Blue Max, Battle of Britain, Flags of our fathers, Sahara, Glory, Heaven & Earth, Gettysburg n' Gallipoli is a few more that really stand out in my mind.

Then there's two war movies that I absolutly hate n' that's Windshitters n' Pearl Crap!

Oh, that's a short timeframe for editing a post. I noticed that I did indeed put in some non WWII movies in my short list but they're so good that they suits fine in the list either way even if they're not WWII.

I have it set at one hour. I have heard horror stories about what people have done on other forums. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: What's your favorite World War II movie?

I couldn't choose one favorite. Certainly "Band of Brothers" has to rank at or near the top. Although there are certainly dramatic flaws, I have to include "The Great Raid". "Tora Tora Tora" remains the Pearl Harbor film to beat. Among the older movies, "Battleground" and "The Desrt Rats" remain favorites. "The Best Years of Our Lives" remains the best film about returning veterans.
