Re: New series on History CH: Battle 360

Ok i've seen 2 shows so far, and i must say they did a great job. The big plus was interviewing the vets. One story that was new to me was the two pilots that a Jap crusier picked up out of the water during the Midway battle. They were so mad about their lost that they tied weights to these guys ankles and tossed them over board. I've heard of them beheading, like Wake island, but not this, Brutal.

The Japanese did not value the lives of their own fighting men highly and valued their opponents' lives even less. I was unaware of that story but in light of everything that we know it is not a huge surprise, sadly.

The Asian mindset is very different from the Western European's. Arab values somewhat the same as the Asian's. I wouldn't give either one a break during wartime, got to expect the same of them I guess.

Re: New series on History CH: Battle 360

It is hard for Westerners to understand that but it is a culturally and/or religiously ingrained belief. It isn't as though we don't view battlefield death a noble sacrifice, but we mourn each and every life as a tragic loss nevertheless. That is a big difference. I do believe that more modern societies in Asia, even probably Japan today, see it differently than they did at the time of World War II.

Now people who teach hatred to their children and encourage them to be martyrs by killing and maiming innocent civilians are a different story...

Re: New series on History CH: Battle 360

Interestingly, both shows had alot about the USS Enterprise, one show was all about the ship, the other was on Midway.
