Post Re: Cross of Iron

When I first saw it, I thought there was a mistake, I heard the children singing (Dang bargian bin I thought), then the film clips everyone has seem before I bet.
The Taman Peninsula, The Retreat, looks interesting, does anyone have a timeframe for this, how far past Kursk is this, maybe fall, from the movie weather and terrain???

Then Stiener and his recon patrol taking out that Russian motor squad, that Maxim MG was pictured once as well, that must have been silenced , thought they did'nt show it.

Now that got me hooked on the movie, and it only gets better from there!!

It did remind me of 1993 Stalingrad, the ones that made DAS BOOT as well

How hard is the book to find, any ideas?

Cheers

Tom

The authentic equipment was a plus as well, that quad 2cm FlaK38 gun in the beginning, during the artillery barrage was very cool!! Seeing it "swinging in the breeze" unmanned after that heavy incoming fire. I thought the half-track was also "real" until I saw the front of it, the grill looks to me of the U.S. kind. The trucks looked authentic, but I'm no expert on those either, sorry to say.

Cheers

Re: Cross of Iron

I watch movies to be entertained. I learned a long time ago not to pick apart the movie I am watching. I used to tear them apart but during the viewing of one movie, the name I do not recall, I was making myself nuts over mistakes.

That being said, I didn't recall seeing too much wrong with the equiptment or secenes overall in the movie Cross of Iron.

I enjoyed this movie very much. Follow me and I'll show you where the Crosses grow.

A great flick I've seen several times over the years. I recently bought the paperback of the book and look forward to reading it. Is it really suppose to be based on true events?

Re: Cross of Iron

One of the best war movies out there. I heard somewhere that Peckinpah was able to be more graphic with the depiction of violence and death because they weren't Americans being killed. Could be wrong, but it doesn't sound all that far fetched.

Re: Cross of Iron

There is an outcry to get a special edition... Cleaned up and finished.

Re: Cross of Iron

I have a copy on DVD. I would certainly love a Special Edition copy to go with my others. I hope they do put one out.
