Smile Cross of Iron

Everyone has seen this , right? I did'nt know what I was missing until I saw this title some years ago in the bargain bin at the video store. Many points I would like to talk about, but for now, I'll see how many have actually seen it.

Cheers

Tom

Re: Cross of Iron

I just recently saw it...(this summer, yeah I have lived a sheltered life, I know) I liked it. My ONLY complaint was it really didn't follow the book, which I just recently reread. And the Ending of the movie was very strange, strange indeed. (Like the budget on the picture ended, and this is what they came up with)
Looking for you reply Tom....

Re: Cross of Iron

I liked it alot, its one of the first movies i can remember that made a good attempt at using real German & Russian equipment. I thought they gave the chacters a good depth so you knew who was who and some of their qurks.

No "Ford" Opals or "Patton" T-34s is always a plus.

Best part for me, was the interaction between the German troops rang true. Knowing a good many who served there, the feelings and attitudes affected by the characters echoed what many real veterans felt.

Yeah, the ending is in fact 'cos the budget ran out for Peckinpah. It's a good movie that I've seen more than a couple of times n' I like it a lot. The factory scene is a classic n' so is the demise of the bugger when there behind enemy lines.

Re: Cross of Iron

I saw it years ago, liked the book much better. "The Forgotten Soldier" was much better still.

Cool Re: Cross of Iron

Yep, call me stupid!! I did'nt know there was a book before the movie, is it an actual true soldiers story, with some "liberties" taken for the movie?

The opening scenes, I was hooked from there, and the actors were perfect in their parts. I might have to watch it again after work tonight, while I'm hangin here!!!

Cheers, a couple more fans I see, very good!!

Liberties taken to say the least, much like Das Boot, there are not always similarities between the book and the movie. Story-line is basically the same but that's about it. Still a great book and movie.
