Re: what have you been watching

Hi McCoy,

With Das Boot, the version I have takes the story line to they get all the way back to port, despite all the problems. Only to get dive bombed whilst alongside....... is this the 'long' version or not?

Mad Men. This is one of those cable TV series. This one on AMC. It is about a Madison Avenue advertising agency in 1960. So far so good.

The original is 4h 42m. The ending is the same as in the shorter ones but there's more depth to the whole thing in the full version than it's in the others.

Re: what have you been watching

I am thinking about checking out another cable TV series called "The Unit", but I can't find the first season at my local Lackluster Video store.

Re: what have you been watching

Not entirely sure this belongs in the WWII on Screen category, but I'm gonna give it a go.

Now, I don't as a rule watch movies with Nazi Zombies in 'em. However, I noticed the guys watching this at work the other night (midnights is grand!), so I borrowed it. I felt compelled for some reason.

OUTPOST
(By the by, the D.C. referred to here was a Royal Marine) In a seedy bar in a town ravaged by war, mysterious businessman Hunt hires ex-marine D.C. to assemble a crack team of ex-soldiers to protect him on a dangerous journey into no-man's land (Somewhere in Eastern Europe. The team has a Royal Marine, a USMC, two other Brit types, an African, a Pole, and either a Russian or Ukrainian). To this gang of hardened warriors, battle-worn veterans and borderline criminals killing is just a job - and one they enjoy. Their mission - to scope out an old military bunker. It should be easy - 48 hours at the most. Lots of cash for little risk, or so he says. Once at the outpost, the men make a horrific discovery that turns their mission on its head - the scene of a bloody and gruesome series of experiments, carried out by the Nazis on their own soldiers during WWII. Amid the carnage, they find something even more disturbing - someone who's still alive. As war rages above ground, and a mysterious enemy emerges from the darkness below, D.C. and his men find themselves trapped in a claustrophobic and terrifying scenario. Their mission is no longer one of safe-guarding - it's one of survival. Together they must discover why Hunt has brought them to the outpost - and what it is that's killing them off, one by one. OUTPOST is a gut-wrenching, adrenaline-fueled horror film, with terrifying set pieces and a suffocating, claustrophobic atmosphere. Gory, gruesome, scary and thrilling in equal measure, OUTPOST is a mind-blowing cocktail of Dog Soldiers, Predator and Hostel, that will scare the living daylights out of you!!!

It was well-filmed, and there is some definite tension when the enter the bunker complex. I will NEVER, EVER go into an empty bunker without a light source viewable from the space shuttle!!!

The plot revolves around Einstein's Unified Field Theory, so the experiments in '45 are at least theoretically plausible. It actually wasn't a bad film.

Re: what have you been watching

Hi Tom,

Could be worth a watch.

You mentioned Dog Soldiers........ not a bad film, it captures the Brit humour quite well, and was filmed in the best part of the country. Although the humans had to win, my money would have been on the Werewolves given an open ending.
