Re: Michael Wittmann

sorry horch no one in the photo is wittman. this photo actually is a third company photo and the ss in this photo are mainly the zug and commanders of the 3rd comapany. if you look at the uniforms you will notice that the ss are not wearing collar tabs etc or even decorations. the two in the leather coats are actaully dispatch motor cycle riders here is a series of nice photos (courtesy of another site) of wittmann and his crew shortly after recieving the knights cross after villers bocage

You're not the first person to be caught by that pic Horch, I've seen it labeled as Wittman at other sites and in at least one book.

Found the book the book that wrongly states that the picture shows Wittmann, it's "SS, Hell on the Western Front" by Chris Bishop. Part of the caption states " SS Obersturmfuhrer Michael Wittmann, seen here in the turret of his Tiger soon after being awarded the Swords to add to the Oakleaves of his Knights Cross."

Re: Michael Wittmann

Here is a link to the book review I did on Amazon for the 'Villers-Bocage Through the Lens' book, which was an excellent purchase, I thoroughly recommend it!

3. Johannes Hans Bolter (s.Pz.Abt 502)-- 139
4. Michael Wittman (s.SS.Pz.Abt 101)-- 138
5. Möbius Karl (Rolf ?) (s.SS.Pz.Abt.101)--125
Hi Klaus, there is also another, possibly equally important figure which isn't reflected here, Wittman knocked out over 120 anti-tank guns on the Eastern Front in addition to his tank kills.

Re: Michael Wittmann

this book apart from the two by patrick agte on wittmann and the commanders of the leibstandarte are supposed to be the three leading resources on wittman and the action at villers bocage. there is also another guy on the missing lynx forum yann jannoult who is the guru on wittmann and 101 in normandy he is an absolute legend. nice review troy tempest

And to think they make money. You should write a book Hagen. You do better research!
