Was Hitler Crazy

Simple question. By crazy I mean lacking touch with reality, not having ideas with which you don't agree.

Public poll so your votes will be visible.

Re: Was Hitler Crazy -- Poll

I think by the time Barbarossa started, he was too willing to believe his own hype. Too often he forced the issue in spite of all his advisors, and come out on top. Hey, he was on a roll!!
I also blame his personal physicians. I'm not sure what Dr. Morrell was injecting him with, but I have a funny feeling it were a little more than vitamins!!! I wonder if there might have been a connection between the good doctor, and Lucy????

Been there, Done That! ...It was the amphetemines, delusions of grandeur, bullet-proof, etc.. : Hey all I needed was a couple of hundred divisions and I'd a been there too! It was the amphetemines. He started taking them during the early thirties before he was "Elected" Reichs Chancellor, used them throughout the 30's and 40's and they worked for a while... Don't know what the official caption was for this pic was, but it should have read: "Der Fuhrer inspecting new Hetzers while speeding his nuts off" -I believe that would have been accurate.

Well i wouldn't say he was nuts, not until after the attempt on his life, which i think was 43?. He did alot for Germany in the 30's, but i think he got caught up in his own believe that they couldn't be defeated in war, and went a bit crazy after that assassination atempt.

I don't think he was crazy... just strtgetically challanged. Before Barbarsam he hadn't had any set backs and was brillant...than he got the thought that he was the second coming of Jesus and Moses put together and pushed his officals aside..

How did the US win???

I think there were several attempts on his life. The closest to success
was in July '44 where the bomb went off in his bunker & there was an
attempted coup.

Re: Was Hitler Crazy -- Poll

We're talking about a leader who murdered his own people en masse. It likes a nut to accomplish that, and a nut isn't made overnight. He was crazy probably since his mother died.

I said out of touch with reality, not a sociopath. There is a difference. Ted Bundy was never insane but murdered 100's of people.

Examples of insanity are hearing voices, delusions of grandeur, lack of touch with basic reality. Giving orders to armies that no longer existed might have been acts of insanity. One could argue that Hitler had delusions of grandeur, but one might also argue that he was "great". He came from humble beginnings and became one of the "greatest" (note the quotation marks) figures of the 20th century in that he altered history as much as any figure in that century.

I don't believe that he was insane in 1933.
