Re: Which General had the greatest "Battle" win?
Well, the one that fly's into my mind right off the cuff would be Patton in the relief of Bastogne. Turn an Army on it's heels and drive through heavy Winter to a besieged town of surrounded troops. Halo!

I thought this thread just died a quick death, no intrest in it for days.
Thanks WR for that, and i agree, Patton did a great job there. Here's my pick: Hermann Balck, one of the best German Generals who in December 1942 wiped out a force ten times his size. And almost saved the Stalingrad fiasco.

Re: Which General had the greatest "Battle" win?
I would call the whole 'canal one prolonged battle that was fought with limited resources for a long time.

Re: Which General had the greatest "Battle" win?
Not sure if he really qualifies but General Percy Hobart deserves a special mention for the part he paid on the British and Commonwealth beaches on D-Day.
Britains answer to Guedarian (SP??), he was dismised into retirement in 1940 and joined the home guard as a Lance-Corporal. (General to Lance Jack, that's some demotion!!). Re-instated in 1941 and developed the 'Funnies' from the lessons learned from the Dieppe raid.
