Chino Airshow: Planes of Fame

Always a cool and big event! Reenactors will be there and there will be a mock battle as well... I wish I could find a Navy Flight Suit and helmet. I want to get a picture of me next to a F4U dressed as a Marine Pilot...

Re: Chino Airshow: Planes of Fame

Did anyone go? This was well worth it. We had to suffer the heat all weekend the crowd only a few hours. It was amazing to see 4 corsairs flying, two zeros (one with the original engine), a mig and sabre, Stearmans, lots of P-51s, two B-25s, a B-17, 2 P-38s and tons of statics and other flyers.

Pictures later today.

Re: Chino Airshow: Planes of Fame

Our tent and displays:

We had a weapons display complete with our M1 Bazooka and M1919 .30 MMG and a BAR.

We had large posterboards done up to honor three WWII veteran relatives of two of our members, the Class A jacket is setup just as one of their father's was at the end of the war. We also had posterboards of our unit in action and the general fun stuff you do in re-enacting. We were selling the hobby and ourselves as well as making a fun learning experience.

Re: Chino Airshow: Planes of Fame

Guys who portray the Filipino Scouts were there. I didn't even know how much the PI had put forth in a military manner. They even helped with the last mounted Cavalry charge in US Army history. 26 men and horses with only .45s... Must have been a sight to see...

We always attracted quite a crowd, usually to the weapons table where they are gathered here. Two of our guys took the brunt of the airshower goers' offensive. But they did an awesome job.

Thought that was a touching photo considering the guy is one of our 442d re-enactors and thats a copy of the Regimental Standard behind him.

That was set up in the fighting position and I kept wanting to get a picture of me on it but kept forgetting to bring the camera on by when I went by it. And by the time I finally brought it with me and remembered it ended up on the display table...

The DRK unit... most of the ladies also do Russian soldiers or US Hospital Corps as well...

That tank (Ha-Go I think) was used in Wind Talkers.

Re: Chino Airshow: Planes of Fame

One of my motivations for coming out was dressing up and getting cool poses next to Corsairs, two other guys were doing the same thing so we got some very cool shots...

Pre-flighting a Wildcat

Me and a buddy who brought out his friend's Digital SLR for us to use for the airshow (and making me want to buy one myself, probably the same model a Nikon d60)

Checking out a "captured" Zero. One of the Zeros at Chino Planes of Fame actually has the original engine making it the only true 100% Zeke in the world...

Me boarding "8-ball" "My" Corsair...

Re: Chino Airshow: Planes of Fame

And one of the coolest shots, I think I should crop it up a bit and age it...

Me in front of #8

People kept telling me I looked like Pappy Boyington and a few guys in my Marine Gaming clan said the same... its kinda creeping me out.

Many more shots here:

Very cool. I particularly like the slit trench photo. Those guys seem to be really into it.
