Re: My Old Man
Totally mate. But what's the point of life if not to improve ourselves as much as we can. I might as well dig a big hole for myself and lie down in it.

Re: My Old Man
Thanks guys...I was a bit bummed out by events with my son earlier today when I posted. Nothing serious, but when your life is really full and satisfying, the small crap gets you down. I'm lucky I only have little things to get bummed out about. Thanks for the advice from wiser heads and a supportive environment for me to whine in.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about your dad, I really respect that, he might as well have served, as his feeling the effects of WW II. That had to be very hard for him and your family, as you posted here. I hope you have some fond memeries still and get your family that much closer.
All my best to you and yours. Tom Young |

Re: My Old Man
Sometimes I think things present themselves at opportune moments Nick. We share a lot in common, really a lot. You are a good guy Nick, I even find myself thinking about things you've said in these forums during my "normal" life. PM me anytime, I think we'd both benefit.

Re: My Old Man
Same here Bill.
The post above was basically a way of marking a 'new phase' in my relationship with my Dad's memory. Sure he had some hard stuff to deal with. I sometimes wish he had done better but it's really not for me to judge. At the time his alcoholism really peaked, I was around tweve or thirteen I guess. I was being bullied at school. I could have used a strong parent at the time. Having said all that, my parents' 'absence' made me what I am today and I'm glad for it all. Basically, if I had my whole life again from the start, I wouldn't change a single second. Despite trouble and strife, these days, when I look back, I marvel at how fortunate I've been. My Dad was a drunk but he was never violent toward me or my mother. If anything...it was my mother who wore the pants. It's the same in my own relationship. I don't really care for the pants...she can wear 'em if it's that important. The best thing I can do is be better for my own kids.
