Re: My Old Man

Ok friend, I think I can offer some insight.

First, don't blame yourself for whatever transpired between you and your dad. That will get you absolutely nowhere.

Enjoy those positive memories you have and forget the rest. Because some of us didn't have a father to have a relationship with in the first place. Like you, I have fought with some demons over a relationship with a father that I never had. At least you had something. Take the good parts and be happy about them. Be proud of those things. You have something there to hold on to.

No matter how much you may struggle with these things remember, there is always someone who has it worse.

Share the best of those things with your son. No need to share the dirt with him.

And then just be the best father you can be and build a better chain for the future. This I know you can do

Re: My Old Man

Thanks Miss Saigon, I appreciate your faith and also your friendship.
I have no regrets. Funnily, I was thinking yesterday how I now 'carry the spirit' and while it may have languished for a while, it travels on. Sometimes, I see my Dad in my kids. I'm always mindful that there are others less fortunate than myself. The day I forget that, is the day I become complacent. Then, dig me a hole and put me in it.

Hope I did'nt bring up any bad thoughts for anyone, that is not my intent here, as I hope ya know.

Wink Re: My Old Man

Just had to make sure here, family can be a touchy thing, but as most know , I am trying to post on every thread here, it means a lot to me for the people who put in the effort and time to do this in what I consider one of the best forums here, every WW II site should have this!!

All the best
