Re: My father and my uncles
excellent story Bill. As many of you may have read in one of my first posts, I am the namesake of an uncle who was killed in Italy on September 14, 1944.
Further to this, my father was the youngest of 8 brothers. He and one other uncles were underage to join the Military. However of the remaining boys, all served. Two with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment (Harv was taken prisoner in December 1944). One with the Irish Regt of Canada (DOW 14-09-44). One in RCASC Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. One stayed in Canada as a Reservist as his job was deemed essential services (Prison Guard) The other brother became of age, joined and shipped overseas as a Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment replacement, however the war ended before he left the UK. My father joined the CAC Canadian Army Cadets. He joined the RCAF in 1950 and served for 32 years, retired as a Major. He continued to work for the DND as a civilian for another 13 years before finally fully retiring.

Re: My father and my uncles
Thank you all for your kind words.
I didn't mention but I should have that they are all gone now. The middle brother was first to go, in summer 1979, from rectal cancer. The youngest died in December 1995 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease". My father was last to go, in September 1999, a month after his 81st birthday, from complications of Parkinson's Disease.
